There are some great new movies 2013 coming up and this list takes a snapshot look at them. From action and fantasy to animation and comedy, there’s certainly a bit of something for everyone. So for those movie buffs out there take the opportunity to make a note of the release dates for 2013!
Hansel and Gretal Witch Hunters
As the title suggests, it’s a plot development of the classic fairy tale story; Hansel and Gretal. Drawing in elements from the fantasy, comedy and action genre, Hansel and Gretal Witch Hunters is directed by Tommy Wirkola, starring Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton as Hansel and Gretal. The plot follows on fifteen years after their childhood whereby the pair have become famous witch hunters. Their help is enlisted by the Mayor of Augsburg who asks them to rid the town of the witch Muriel who intends to sacrifice the local children in the upcoming Bloodmoon night which is only two days away. However the pair also has to contend with the local sheriff who has taken it upon himself to start his own indiscriminate witch hunt so things heat up quickly. This movie is currently slated to be released January 13th 2013.
A good day to Die Hard
For those loyal fans of Die Hard, this is the 5th sequel in the series. Currently staring Bruce Willis as John McClane and Jai Courtney as his son, the movie is directed by John Moore. What is currently known about the plot is that the father and son find themselves in Russia and of course, what would be a Die Hard movie if they didn’t also find themselves in serious danger. Look out for this movie on the 14th of February 2013.
Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters
This is the sequel to Percy Jackson and the Lightning thief, directed by Thor Freudenthal with the cast in the first movie returning for another adventure. Based on the novel written by Rick Riordan, Percy finds Camp Half-Blood, the one safe haven for demi-gods on the verge of being destroyed. To save the camp Percy must find the Golden Fleece from the Island of the Cyclops but before that he needs to rescue his best friend Grove. The action packs up but Percy also learns another secret about his family. Scheduled to be released on the 27th of March, it’s a great family movie so watch out for it!
Iron Man 3
This series is back for 2013, to be released on the 3rd of May. Directed and written by Shane Black, Robert Downey returns as the billionaire Tony Stark, the protagonist who leads a double life as a crime fighter in an iron clad suit. Although the plot has yet to be confirmed, Robert has been recorded to have said that “Iron Man 3 is probably the best script I’ve read in five years…” So if Iron Man was good, watch out for Iron Man 3.
Fast and the Furious 6
Another series that is back for 2013, currently in pre-production, confirmed actors are Luke Hobbs as Dwayne Johnson, Dominic Toretto as Vin Diesel and Mia Toretto as Jordana Brewster. Directed by Justin Lin, the plot is still unknown however gauging from the performance of the previous movies at the box office, it may be safe to assume that Fast and the Furious 6 will be another hit. The movie is scheduled to be released on the 24th of May.
Disney is coming back with a prequel to Monster Inc which was released in 2001. Directed by Dan Scanton the plot centres on Mike and Sulley meeting in college, initially as enemies but later becoming good friends. Starring John Goodman, Billy Crystal and Mary Gibbs the movie is scheduled to be released on the 21st of June and is a great one for kids.
Despicable Me 2
The sequel to the popular 2010 animation Despicable Me. Despicable Me 2 it is to be directed by Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud with the plot still to be written. Another great movie for both kids and adults it is currently slated for the 3rd of July. Confirmed actors are Jason Segel as Vetor, Steve Carell as Gru and Elsie Kate Fisher as Agnes.
The new movies 2013 looks promising with a rich selection of genres and a growing trend in putting a twist on ordinary classic fairy tale stories. So for those movie buffs out there, take a note of this new movies 2013 list and pencil in some dates. There’s something for everyone and more than one good movie for the whole family.
